Abstract

As a new academic publication model is attempted to improve the transparency, efficiency, and speed of scientific knowledge production and distribution, the open peer review platform for verification and openness of peer review history is also activated. Publons is a global platform for tracking, validating, disclosing, and recognizing the peer-reviewed histories of more than 3 million researchers worldwide. This study analyzed the review activities of 579 researchers from domestic universities who are actively reviewing international journals through Publons. As a result of the analysis, first, researchers from domestic universities who actively review international academic journals were found to be in the fields of medicine and electrical and electronics, and in most fields, assistant professors or higher with high WOS indexed research papers are participating. Second, there was a long-tail phenomenon in which a small number of reviewers with extremely high number of review papers existed in all academic fields, and there was no significant difference in the number of review papers and review report length depending on the nationality, academic status, and age of the reviewers. Lastly, although there was a weak correlation between the amount of papers reviewed by reviewers and the number of published papers, it was found that researchers with an extremely large number of reviews do not necessarily produce as many research papers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to empirically verify the factors(organization managerial factors, relational factors and personal factors) that affect the knowledge sharing intention of records management specialists. A total of 126 responses were used for the final analysis and the findings of this study are as follows: First, managers’ interests and supports had a significant positive effect on tacit knowledge sharing intention, but evaluation and compensation system had a negative effect on tacit knowledge sharing intention. Second, job stress was found to have a significant positive effect on the intention of knowledge sharing(tacit, explicit). It is required to form an organizational culture where records management specialists can freely participate in knowledge sharing activities with the interest and support of managers. In addition, the process of continuously improving the causes of one of the causes of job stress, such as awareness improvement and deprivation, should be carried out through records management training for all employees. This study is meaningful in that it provides policy implications for promoting knowledge sharing as a solution to the managerial problems faced by records management specialists by utilizing the current staffing structure.

Abstract

While small libraries have steadily increased in quantity, parts of qualitative growth such as lack of manpower and poor operation have been pointed out as problems. Accordingly, with the aim of establishing a foundation for linkage and cooperation between public libraries and small libraries, the small library itinerant librarians project has been promoted since 2010, and its scale has been continuously expanding. However, the lack of manpower and poor operation still remain tasks to be solved, and the poor treatment and job environment of itinerant librarians have not improved. In this context, this study aims to examine the problems of small libraries and job problems experienced by itinerant librarians and to find ways to improve the job environment of itinerant librarians based on this. Through the analysis of previous studies, small libraries and net companies were investigated, and in-depth interviews were conducted with participants related to itinerant librarians and small libraries. Through interview data analysis, a total of 17 meaning topics were extracted, including ‘lack of work authority’, ‘lack of work manual’, ‘lack of communication, community’, ‘lack of integrated operating system’, ‘poor treatment and working environment’, ‘malicious user’, and ‘lack of belonging’. Based on this, four improvement measures were proposed, including the improvement of the job authority and standard regulations of itinerant librarians, the establishment of a community organization, job security guarantees, and job education reinforcement.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the current status of young adult services centering on public libraries in Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam, identify problems, and then suggest tasks for service revitalization. The status of young adult services and librarians’ perceptions in the 93 public libraries in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam that were registered in the 2021 National Library Statistics System and the Busan Metropolitan City Library Portal was investigated. As a result of the survey, 24% of public libraries have a space for young adult, and if there is dedicated space, it was found that the most number of bookshelves for young adult were installed inside the space. Libraries that provide young adult services accounted for 76% of the total, and the age range of the service targets was set between 13 and 18 years of age. The analysis revealed that it was difficult to provide services due to a combination of problems such as poor use and passive participation by young adult, lack of dedicated space, lack of manpower for program operation, and lack of budget. Nevertheless, most librarians agreed on the need to provide young adult-only spaces and young adult services. The tasks to revitalize young adult services in public libraries was suggested; expand young adult participation in the space creation and service planning/operation stage, create a space dedicated to young adult, diversify the contents of youth volunteer activities, secure the professionalism of the librarian in charge, human resource utilization, and expand public relations for services.

Abstract

This study aims to understand international students’ web search behaviors. During the experiment, fifteen international students were asked to conduct three search tasks which includes six search questions. Depending on the characteristics of search task, there were differences in search performance and search behavior. It was commonly found that participants with higher Korean fluency showed higher search performance; however, prior knowledge about the search topic did not always affect the search performance. In the search tasks that required navigation through menus and links within one web domain, participants often overlooked the correct answers, even if they were at the webpages containing the correct answer. Also, some participants did not realized that they found wrong answers. For enhancing information seeking behaviors among foreigners in Korea, the followings were suggested: 1) to design websites which are easy for non-native speakers to navigate, and 2) to use social media as a means of interactive communication.

Abstract

If the blockchain means storing information in a distributed environment that cannot be forged or altered, it is mentioned that this is similar to what librarians collect, preserve, and share authoritative information. In this way, this study examined blockchain technology as a way to collect and provide reliable information, increase work efficiency inside and outside the library, and strengthen cooperative networks. This study attempted to propose various ways to utilize blockchain technology in book relations based on literature surveys and case studies in other fields. To this end, this study first analyzed the field and cases of blockchain application to confirm the possibility and value of blockchain application in the library field, and proposed 12 ways to utilize it based on this. The utilization model was proposed by dividing it into operation and service sectors. In the operation sector, it is a digital identity-based user record storage and authentication function, transparent management and traceable monitoring function, voting-based personnel and recruitment system, blockchain governance-based network efficiency function, and blockchain-based next-generation device management and information integration function. The service sector includes improved book purchase and sharing efficiency due to simplification of intermediaries, digital content copyright protection and management functions, customized service provision based on customer behavior analysis, blockchain-based online learning platforms, sharing platforms, and P2P-based reliable information sharing platforms.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the perception of RDA by university library librarians and the level of perception of emotions, familiarity, understanding, introduction, obstacles, and education, and to secure basic data to improve awareness. The data needed for the study were obtained through a survey of 76 librarians in 4-year university libraries. As a result of the survey, 67.1% of librarians had listened to RDA, and school classes were the highest at 51.0% of cognitive means. Second, librarians perceived that they were more positive emotions than negative emotions about RDA, and that they were not familiar with RDA-related principles or concepts. In particular, it was recognized that the RDA itself and FRAD were not more familiar. The librarian recognized that they understood RDA-related principles or concepts at a normal level, and in particular, recognized that they did not further understand the authority and encoding. Third, librarians recognized the introduction of RDA at a slightly higher level than usual, but among the questions, ‘RDA replaces AACR2’ was recognized at a normal level. The librarian recognized the obstacles to the introduction of RDA at a higher level than usual, and in particular, the lack of education related to RDA was highly recognized. Fourth, librarians recognized the need for RDA-related education at a high level, especially the use of RDA Toolkit, changes in RDA records, differences between RDA and AACR2, and the need for RDA and MARC21-related education. In this study, based on the research results, a plan to improve librarian awareness of RDA was proposed.
