Abstract

The study was carried out for the purpose of identifying implications that should be considered in educating DDC through online within Library and Information Science curriculum. Followed by operating a NCS-based educational course utilizing printed matter and web version of DDC, two tests and survey were conducted to analyze learning outcomes, satisfaction, and preferences by learning tools. The result showed that differences in educational medium do not correlate to educational performance significantly. However, during the learning process, the mainly used medium affects the usefulness, preference and future utilization of the medium. Based on the research results, when designing DDC education using WebDewey in the future, compared to the printed version, relative understanding for utilizing the structure and its items of DDC classification, built numbers and education for understanding Web Dewey interface and function are required.

Abstract

This research proposed an approach for interlinking bibliographic data used in the existing multicultural institutions in order to support information services of multicultural institutions. It constructed a set of linkage properties that can link the FRBR-based BIBFRAME structure with the existing metadata standards currently adopted in multicultural institutions, including MODS, EAD, and CDWA. As a result, the descriptive elements for the Work level, Instance level, Item level, statement of responsibility, subjects were established in the BIBFRAME syntax. A total of 19 upper level elements, 18 sub-elements, and 12 linkage properties were proposed for the linking of bibliographic data, so that a bibliographic environment was established that can interconnect heterogeneous metadata adopted depending on the types of collections. Through the proposed structure, it is expected that it can be applied to provide sufficient information services more efficiently by linking the dispersed bibliographic data of multicultural institutions in an integrated way.

Abstract

How are real libraries affected and what are they planning and working on in the current coronavirus era? Based on these questions, the purpose of this study was to analyze the Corona-related trends based on the 2020 implementation plan of the Library Development Comprehensive Plan and the 2021 implementation plan, and to analyze the impact and changes of the libraries in the city and the direction of corona response. The problems in the 2020 municipal libraries are largely attributed to the closure or curtailment of libraries due to the epidemic of coronavirus, budget cuts and budget limits due to coronavirus, declining users’ interest and participation, infrastructure limits due to rapid service changes and operational limitations. Furthermore, the improvement measures and future plans could be divided into 1) development and provision of non-face-to-face programs; 2) development and provision of online-based services; 4) expansion of budget for response to demand; 5) provision of space against corona; and other response directions. In addition, in order to systematically cope with coronavirus in the future, it is expected that first, hybrid-type programs and services, second, infrastructure for online and non-face-to-face services, and third, budget utilization flexibility will be required.

Abstract

COVID-19 has been affecting the library, not to mention society as a whole. Especially, there are many changes in the role and service of the university libraries as all the classes of the universities are turned into non-face-to-face and the use of the university libraries is restricted. The changes in users’ use of information and communication behavior due to COVID-19 could be an opportunity for new utilization of human and material resources the university libraries have and for the development of services. However, on the contrary, the university libraries could face another crisis if they fail to respond appropriately to current changes. Therefore, it is necessary to grasp, analyze the impact of COVID-19 and plan how to respond. A survey on the effects of COVID-19 and the response of the university libraries and the perceptions of the university libraries found that most university libraries are responding appropriately to COVID-19. However, a survey on the perceptions of the present and future of the university libraries under COVID-19 showed that many survey respondents think COVID-19 would have a negative impact on the university libraries. This means that the changes caused by COVID-19 are causing a crisis and anxiety in the university libraries. Therefore, by working hard together, the university libraries need to present the university libraries’ new role, service and direction in the post-COVID-19 era as well as responding to the current situation.

Abstract

This study is to present improvement plans by examining how Korean literature house websites provide information services. Seventy-nine Korean literature houses out of eighty-eight members of the Korean Literature House Association were studied, except nine that did not construct websites. Three core elements, including website style, literary works information and writer information, together with thirteen sub-elements, were derived from precedent studies. As a result, it was found that 90% of the literature houses were operating websites, but the classification criteria for the literary works and cataloguing rules were not unified, and literature information was not provided sufficiently. Thus, this study suggested improvement plans such as support to build a website, developing cataloging guidelines for literature houses, providing more full-text literature and providing information about literary works and writer.
