The National Museum of Korea is a nation's representative museum library that provides collection development, organizes, and utilize museum collections. Considering the limited budget, staffing, and users' awareness of the museum libraries in general, the role of the National Museum of Korea is vital. The purpose of this study is to establish the identity and development plan of the National Museum of Korea library as a specialized library. For this purpose, the current states of the National Museum of Korea library, preliminary studies, domestic and overseas case studies, and user & expert interviews were conducted. As a result of the study, the study suggested future directions to secure the professional identity of library, and development plans for collection, service, and human resources by museum library, and also to increase the role of library in museum and to improve users' awareness.
The purpose of this study is to suggest how to activate the school library by examining how the users' perceive teacher librarians. For this purpose, questionnaires and in-depth interviews were conducted for students in 10 middle and high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi. Analyses lead to these findings: the image types of teacher librarians were classified as professional image, active image, and simple-work image. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the effect of teacher librarians images on school library user satisfaction. In order to enhance the teacher librarians images and school library user satisfaction, it is necessary to strive to cultivate the active attitude and professionalism of teacher librarians. Also, as the frequency of use is lower, the teacher librarians' images are viewed as simple work. Therefore, it is required to consider various reading events and reading education to raise the frequency of use. This study shows that the teacher librarians' images have a positive effect on school library users' satisfaction and suggests improvement plan for school library activation.
In a situation when domestic construction market is expected to be stagnant, Overseas Information System for Construction Engineering (OVICE) is operated to support the construction SMEs that advance to the global market. In this study, we aimed to improve the quality of information service by providing direction of information provision, by comparing expert questionnaire with information system user statistics. For statistical analysis of information systems, to improve the efficiency of statistical analysis that is difficult to prioritize, K-means clustering is used for more efficient analysis. As a result, analyzing the difference between the survey results and the information system statistics, we were able to identify improvement point of information provision in the system and important contents that were not highlighted during the survey.
This study aims to examine the current status of health-related courses at the graduate level from American Library Association-accredited LIS programs and to identify the core topics and contents that have been covered in those courses by analyzing the course syllabi. Findings reveal that 44 out of 61 Library and Information Science (LIS) programs were offering at least one health-related course and the three most offered courses were 'health information resources', 'health informatics', and 'consumer health information (CHI)'. We collected a total of 21 course syllabi available online in the three areas and further analyzed their course descriptions, weekly topics, readings, and assignments. The findings of the study could be valuable for instructors who want to design or upgrade health-related courses in LIS programs.
This study was carried out on specialized library librarians to investigate the status and overall satisfaction of specialized services and to compare the degree of importance and satisfaction of specialized subject data, specialized service places, specialization programs, specialized subject area facilities and environment based on ISA technique in order to derive problems and improvement measures for the operation of specialized libraries. As results, first, it was found that a specialized library subject should be selected based on the characteristics, history, and resources of the library location as well as based on the demand survey of the local residents and users. Second, based on the appropriate program type of specialized subject and the results from users' demand surveys, specialized libraries should develop different types of experience-type, lecture-type, view-type and the likes. Third, specialized library space types can be divided into integrated type, independent-in-integration type, and independent type. Even though it is most ideal to provide independently specialized space, the space must be constructed considering the circumstances and subject of specialization of each library. Fourth, specialized libraries should have at least one dedicated specialist in the corresponding subject. Dedicated specialists should provide lending and reference services related to the specialization such as tidying, browsing, reading and operating specialized programs. And a dedicated specialist must be an expert in the specialized subject and also a librarian who is responsible of the general library operation.
This study examined relevant literature to review the concept of low-income class, its criteria and types. Based on the cases surveyed, the service status of public libraries for low-income class in South Korea was determined. Based on the findings of this study, we proposed new library services necessary for low-income class, such as the implementation of relevant programs aimed at resolving the digital information divide of low-income class, the introduction of employment programs for the self-economic-support for low-income class adults, and the introduction of reading and counseling therapy services. In addition, this study proposed five policies for activating library services for the low-income class: (1) To revise the act on library law so as to clarify the concept of low-income class, its criteria and types, (2) to revise the master plan for library development so as to bolster the library services for low-income class, (3) to conduct a national-level survey of the low-income class status and of the library service status, (4) to determine the actual features of the low-income class and their information demands, and (5) to prepare library services tailored to the diverse types of low-income class.
The purpose of this research is to empirically analyze the effect of public library use on the construction of social and cultural capital and the close of social classes reproduction through the survey targeting public library users. As a result, the use of public libraries positively affects the construction of both social and cultural capital. In contrast, it partially addresses the problems in social classes reproduction because the social classes with higher levels of education and income tend to use public libraries more often. In order to take a role of and contribute to equal construction of social and cultural capital, public libraries need to be public places for open and social interaction. In addition, it is necessary for public libraries to improve their roles to allow community members to access and utilize various cultural resources.
The purpose of this study is to explore how the Expert Power of archivists has influence on the job engagement and job satisfaction of record management personnel. The data were collected by survey with 103 record management personnel of office of education in Gwangju from September 2017 to October 2017. To analyze the research data, this study adopted several statistical analysis methods such as factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, independent sample T-test, and one-way analysis of variance. Results revealed that professionalism and influence tactics among professionalism, influence tactics, influence requirement be to the archivists Expert Power factors affect the job engagement and job satisfaction of record management personnel. Based on the results of the research, this study suggested the extension of educational training about record management and communication with record mangement personnel.
This study examined and analyzed the related study, Library Law, comparison of Korean Library Standards and IFLA guidelines and the status of domestic hospital library provision in order to grasp the regulations and status of domestic hospital library. As a result, the related study is very insufficient compared to overseas, and the Law and Standards for hospital libraries are not clearly and in detail in the Library Law. It is impossible to grasp the statistics and actual condition of the hospital library through the Yearbook of the Korean Library. The Korean Library Standards and IFLA guidelines also show differences in composition and key elements. According to the survey, 49 hospitals (1.3%), 8 hospitals (0.2%), 5 nursing hospitals (0.1%), 4 children's hospitals (0.1%), and 1 military hospital (0.0%) were among the 67 hospitals surveyed. Of the 49 general hospitals, 42 were advanced general hospitals, of which 17 were providing hospital libraries. The most urgent issue for providing hospital libraries is the revision of the Library Law and the Korean Library Standards, and the mandatory provision of hospital libraries, publicity through library magazines, and related research should be carried out.
With the recent increase in private universities being closed due to a decrease in the number of students, the importance of records management at schools is also increasing. However, the guidelines for records management at closed private universities are ambiguous, causing confusion in the transfer of records and management. Therefore, this study conducted a literature survey on university records and institutions, and examined the current status of private universities in schools through education statistics services. Among the surveyed private universities, the latest to be closed, and the largest of them was Suh Nam University, which looked at the detailed records management status of private schools. The purpose of the interview was to analyze the results of the interview and draw up implications and propose improvement measures. First, the proposed improvement plan in this study is to make it mandatory to deploy records management specialists at private universities for specialized records management. Second, the law should be revised to improve the ambiguity of private universities' guidelines. Third, continuous support from higher institutions should be ensured so that records management at closed private universities is not passive. This improvement will enable records management at closed private universities to be carried out efficiently when the future closure of private universities is carried out.
In this study, 15 teacher librarians working in the high school library were interviewed in order to understand the factors and situation of teacher librarian's job burnout. The results showed that job environment, teacher librarian's role and identity, school community members' lack of awareness of school library and teacher librarians were found to be influential factors in job burnout. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to develop proper compensation system, to divide librarians and teacher librarians into clear jobs, to provide opportunities for the other teachers to extend their understanding of teacher librarians, and to provide opportunities for self development and recharging.
In this research, a sample was selected from a public library in Paju city, which operates a regional collaborative library system. They collected data on materials, usage, and acquisition. An analysis of book collection data and usage data was also conducted in order to evaluate the correlation between the usage and acquisition by comparing overlap of purchased materials. As a result, circulations and the interlibrary loan (ILL) borrowing requests were differentiated by topics according to targeted materials, and that these characteristics affect the overlap of purchased materials. The study suggested that public libraries in the region collaborative library system need to consider the paradigm of collection and access when purchasing books.
The purpose of the study is to examine prospective librarians' library practicum experiences by using Giorgi's descriptive phenomenological method. To achieve the purpose of the study, the study conducted in-depth interviews with the participants of the library practicum in the department of library and information science at the A university. Following Giorgi's four ways of phenomenological description, the study analyzed the collected data from in-depth interviews with the participants. Prospective librarians' library practicum experiences were able to analyze as five significant themes and seventeen sub-categories of the themes. The five main themes are as followings: 'formulating perception of libraries and librarians', 'formulating career design through self-development and challenges', 'growth and challenges in preparing the library practicum', 'growth and challenges in the middle of library practicum' and 'experiences after the library practicum and the evaluation.' On the basis of the findings, the study suggested alternative programs of library practicum and the directions for performing the programs effectively and efficiently.
The purpose of this study is to propose a classification system that can classify various industrial and craft materials consistently and systematically by comparing and analyzing the classification system of materials libraries in domestic and foreign. For this study, it was investigated the operation cases and classification system of domestic and foreign material libraries, and then proposed a method to classify consistently and systematically by comparing and analyzing the classification items of KDC and DDC. The classification system of material library was not classified by subject, but classified into the name of material and type, or the classification system of a material library was divided by Arabic numeral as a general classification system. It is difficult to access and share information because most of material libraries use the classification system developed by the library itself. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a standard classification system to share the information stored in the material libraries.
As a part of the open science policy, this study compared the perception of research data sharing and utilization by academic field. Based on this, in - depth interviews were conducted with semistructured questions to the data task managers of 27 government - funded research institutes in science and technology. Among them, nine excellent organizations were selected from the viewpoint of data management and cases of research data collection and management were specifically presented. The State of the collection and management of research data by the participating research institutes is generally a pilot project stage, and the level of collection and establishment of data also differs by institution. In terms of institutions, they are divided into three levels: the level of collection and establishment of data(KIOM), the advanced level of it (KIST), And level of steps to start sharing (KRIBB, KRICT).
