Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of the Cooperative system of Japanese local libraries (Do-do-bu-ken prefecture) in Japan, which perform similar functions along a similar hierarchy with the local representative libraries in South Korea. I would like to use this analysis as material for my report. For the study, I visited eight distinguished and advanced Japanese local libraries (Do-do-bu-ken prefecture) that had been selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to analyze the current situation of the Cooperative system and service. I conducted space planning through plan analysis by selecting five out of the eight libraries. As a result, it was shown that the Japanese local libraries (Do-do-bu-ken prefecture) accurately recognize the roles and functions as a regional central library of Japan and conduct Cooperative system not only with the National Diet Library of Japan but also with regional central libraries in the whole country. In terms of the space planning, the ratio of the space occupied by the task management part of the office area and the support area showed the highest space planning ratio according to role for the library.

Abstract

This study aimed at analyzing journals and index terms, authors of the reformed theology and evangelicalism, neutral theological position by using bibliometrical analyzing methods. The analyzing methods are average linkage and neighbor centralities, profile cosine similarities. Especially, when analyzing the relationship between authors, we interpreted the research topic by finding the key shared index terms between the authors. In the journal analysis results, 9 journals were largely clustered together in the two clusters of the reformed theology and evangelicalism, but Presbyterian Theological Quarterly that is thought to be a reformed journal was clustered in evangelical cluster. In the index terms analysis results of the clusters, the reformed theology and evangelicalism were key words representing the two clusters. In the authors' analysis results, we had 9 clusters and the Presbyterian theologian studying the reformed theology had the four clusters and the non-Presbyterian theologian had the 5 clusters. Therefore, we consistently had the two clusters of the reformed theology and evangelicalism in all the analysis of the journals and the index terms, the authors.

Abstract

The user satisfaction of environmental facilities, collection, library services including webpage, etc. by using KSDC program provided by Korea Social Science Data Center has been analysed in this study. Also, the undergraduate students using P-academic library on December 2017 were sampled and analysed in this study. ANOVA etc. were used for testing wether gender, academic level and major of students affect the satisfaction, and Pearson correlation coefficient was used for testing the relation among the variables in the attached questionnaire. The major conclusions of this study are: (1) The policy development for the library use of male undergraduate students is needed. (2) The special counterplan to improve the user accessibility is needed. (3) Also, environmental facilities is absolutely needed when planning to improve user satisfaction. Besides, the development plan prepared after analysing the user opinions in essay form was suggested in this paper, too.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of project-based learning method on the self-directed learning and problem-solving abilities of students taking the 'Media Center Management' course in Library Information Science (LIS). During this study, two tests measuring students' self-directed learning and problem-solving abilities were conducted, containing 48 items divided into 8 categories and 30 items divided into 5 steps of problem-solving processes, respectively. By utilizing the correspondence sample T-test during this study, statistically significant results were found in all categories of self-directed learning, excluding the 'self-understanding' category. In addition, significant differences were found in the 5 steps problem-solving processes as well. Subsequently, an in-depth interview was conducted, inquiring into the students' perspectives on the difficulty of attending classes, the content of lectures, the appropriateness of assignments, the validity of the evaluation method, the relationship with their team members, and the benefits acquired from completing the assignments. Finally, suggestions for future research were presented.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze tasks of the librarians manning reading guidance at public library in order to enhance the professionalism of reading instruction required by librarians. For this purpose, we used the study method such as literature study and FGI analysis. As a result, The duty and task for Special Librarians in Reading Guidance was organized with 15 duties and 55 tasks.

Abstract

This study proposed an integrated management system model of researcher identifiers using the ISNI(International Standard Name Identifier) that can prevent duplicate issuance of identifiers and can be used to reorganize the authors' information. We looked at the metadata structure and management system of the ISNI that can be applied in various fields among identifiers. And we have designed the integrated ID system and system model that can manage the identifiers issued by each institute based on the ISNI. This model consists of data structure layer, platform layer, application layer, management and security layer (4 layers) and we have presented some of the key features and issues to consider when managing the integrations.

Abstract

This study identified problems in reading for future careers and suggests approaches to solve the identified problems by analyzing the fundamental vocational competence and reading for a future career. The study included 457 students in the liberal arts college (humanities and education programs) at "A" university. In accordance with the analysis, communication ability (average 3.61), interpersonal relation ability (3.59), literacy (3.40) and problem solving ability (3.39) were relatively high in fundamental vocational competence, while numeracy (2.72) and entrepreneurship (2.89) were low. Next, 65.2% of those reported no reading for their future career. 46.3% answered 'no time to read books related to my future career.' 25.8% selected 'no books worth reading related to my future career.' 22.5% said 'no curiosity about my future career.' Considering that those who did not read any materials related to a future career reached 65.2% and a number of students had low fundamental vocational competence, this paper suggested the implementation of a systematic educational program for standardizing and strengthening fundamental vocational competence and enhancing understanding of future careers.

Abstract

This study set out to analyze donation cases at public libraries, to propose plans to overcome their limitations of deficient operation budgets, and to vitalize donations at libraries. The investigator conducted a survey on the perceptions of donation activities at public libraries with a group of staff members in charge at public libraries that participated in the distribution project of books donated by publishers led by the Korean Library Association. In addition to the outcomes of project participation, the study also examined and analyzed the perceptions of in-house donation activities at public libraries in 2016. Furthermore, it looked into previous studies and cases of library donations home and abroad, identifying limitations and improvement measures of donation activities at public libraries and proposing plans to overcome them.

Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to analyze the learning activities of "the Reading a Book per Semester" with the goal of finding ways to collaborate with the school library. "the Reading a Book per Semester" is a program that requires students to read during the timetable-designated "Korean" class instead of encouraging students to read outside of class, as has been the case thus far. The program was designed by 3 parts: reading, sharing, and formulating. However, an analysis of 11 Korean textbooks and 22 approaches to the program showed that the model has shifted to <selecting, reading, and formulating>. Under this new model, schools could expand each step in the following ways: utilize the school libraries more as the book search space during the selection process; include writing a reading diary in the reading process; and further encourage students to read outside of the classrooms in the formulating step. If these amendments were to be applied, they would strengthen the educational purpose of the school libraries within schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is investigate the level of awareness and interest of middle and high school students on performance evaluation book list, and regarding the correlation analysis of general satisfaction and academic achievement. For this purpose, each of the two middle schools and high schools in Seoul were selected, a total of 200 people were surveyed for each 50 students in each gender and grade. Research results, First, the analysis of gender and school level showed that there were differences in level of interest in performance evaluation books. Second, the analysis of differences in the level of interest in the list of performance evaluation books showed that students interested in the list of performance evaluation books spend more time evaluating performance. Third, the analysis of differences in level of awareness in the list of performance evaluation books showed that the relationship between knowledge acquisition and academic achievement was high depending on whether they were ware. There was also a significant relationship between selection criteria and general satisfaction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze actual cases of specialized libraries which are increasing in number due to the influence of the local government policy and the specialization-oriented social atmosphere and to explore the development direction of specialized libraries in the future. In order to do that, the distributions, collections, facilities, professional manpower, programs, and services of the libraries providing specialized services were investigated and analyzed. A total of 55 libraries were analyzed and the implications and proposed policy directions based on the analysis are as follows. First, when selecting a specialized subject, the library should consider the local resources, local identity, local brands and demand of local residents. Second, specialized collections should be related to the specialized topic, and the number of specialized collections should be more than 10,000, but the proportion of specialized collections compared to the total collections should also be considered. Third, the design of space should consider the specialized subject, taking into account that required spaces and types are different depending on the type of specialized subject. Fourth, Specialized libraries should have specialists from the specialized area and the role of universities and librarian education institutes seem to be critical for cultivating specialized personnel. Fifth, the program type implemented by specialized libraries should be appropriately selected and operated from the program types of view-type, event-type, lecture-tepe, experience-type and contest-type, based on the specialized subject.

Abstract

Information inequality has been differently conceptualized and defined in national laws. While the information inequality increases, library policy and informational service has lagged behind in meeting the needs of the society and the state. This paper aims to provide a preliminary research on information inequality, in terms of conceptualization, the legal base, terminology, index development based on the level of digital information. The paper also highlights cases on library services for solution of the difference. It compares library services designed for the disabled, ethnic minorities and the aged. The paper reviews the existing literature and project data. As a result, there are a number of processes and tasks that needs to be developed, including policy development, supporting organization, human capital, cooperating network, supporting facilities and service, and data.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the access and retrieval of images and to find a way to effectively generate tags as a tool for providing explanation of images. To do this, this study investigated the features of human tagging and machine tagging, and compare and analyze them. Machine tags had the highest general attributes, some specific attributes and visual elements, and few abstract attributes. The general attribute of the human tag was the highest, but the specific attribute was high for the object and scene where the human tag constructor can recognize the name. In addition, sentiments and emotions, as well as subjects of abstract concepts, events, places, time, and relationships are represented by various tags. The tag set generated through this study can be used as basic data for constructing training data set to improve the machine learning algorithm.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to re-conceptualize the functions of military libraries in Korea, both as spaces and services, by examining current operating structures and offering strategies for development. In exploring the existing military library operations in Korea, this study assesses key areas, such as human resources, facilities and equipment, budget, cooperation, and collections and materials. By leveraging the cross-area assessments, the study identifies opportunities for improvement and modernization. This study may serve as a foundation to formulate policy-based strategies for the development of military libraries, toward satisfying the information needs of the armed forces and promoting the broader underlying priorities of military libraries.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to suggest a strategy of introduction of Larchiveum, which is a concept of multi cultural space in libraries. Problem of library space programs are discussed in terms of Larchiveum and Maker space, and recently it has been studied in various aspects such as Europeana, GLAM and DPLA from the view point of digital Larchiveum. As a multi cultural space, it is a strategy for constructing Larchiveum that reflects the recent maker's movement. Maker space that explores new ideas and encourages active participation of users, nature and health, curiosity and the construction of an attractive space using ecological concepts as key words. The processes and methods for constructing Larchiveum are classified into 3 types of space configuration, service, program, and operating regulation, and twelve details are laid out to derive the process and method of building Larchiveum as a future type library.
