Abstract

In this study, an investigation has been made on the status of the issuance of librarian qualification, the status of operating Subject specialized librarians at home and abroad, the status of professional manpower of the similar cultural facilities, and their recruitment method, based on which an attempt has been made to propose a way to nurture the Subject specialized librarians. First, I propose a method for training Subject specialized librarians through a regular curriculum and a retraining process, while suggest the ways to nurture the Subject specialized librarians from undergraduate and also nurture the existing librarians to become the Subject specialized librarians. Second, the basic qualification of the Subject specialized librarians must have a career of more than 3 years in a specific subject area with a master's degree or higher, and in order to have a subject area background, it is proposed that a bachelor's degree or a master's degree must absolutely be acquired in the corresponding subject area. Third, in order to improve the treatment of such Subject specialized librarians, the Subject specialized librarians in the administrative service group could be organized into a research librarian (or library and information science) series and types as a subordinate literary series under the researcher position. That is, it is proposed to differentiate the librarians and the Subject specialized librarians by reorganizing series and types of the Subject specialized librarians while maintaining the current librarian series.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of the quality of Web-based legal information services and their significant influences on the user continuance intentions. Based on the main dimensions of the SERVQUAL, this study conceptualizes five dimensions of reliability, assurance, design, empathy, and responsiveness. It measures the level of expectation and satisfaction on the basis of these five dimensions. Regression analysis was conducted to extract and analyze the determinants of the service quality and the factors affecting continuous intention. The level of legal information service quality is superior in empathy, responsiveness, and design category, but it is relatively insufficient in reliability and assurance category. In the reliability category, the relevance of the search results was an issue. The problems related to the authority and information sources were recognized as important. Reliability implies that there is a relatively close relationship between empathy and responsiveness, and that it is necessary to improve the quality of contents such as empathy and responsiveness in order to increase reliability. In order to increase the ongoing use of legal information services in the future, it is more effective to make sure that assurance is top priority.

Abstract

This study is to suggest some improvement directions of the criteria for the management evaluation in order to contribute to the achievement of lasting value of the continuous development and publicity in regard to the public library means-efficiency. To this end, This study analyzed the means-efficiency evaluation criteria via theoretical review on business analysis of private enterprise and the analysis framework based on it. The improvement of evaluation criteria in regard to efficiency for the continuous development of public library are as follows. 1) Regardless of domestic and foreign, an efficiency index in the performance evaluation index of public library is absolutely insufficient. The sufficient indexes measuring efficiency which is appropriate for the concept of performance should be developed. 2) A flow data representing input and performance in certain time period is insufficient. Therefore, evaluation index consisted of flow data should be more developed. 3) Long term stock data is excluded in the term cost as it is the cost used for the long term such as fixed assets. However, it is useful as input data, which is realized through the perfect accounting.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the actual case of service about how podcasts are provided in domestic and foreign public libraries and to suggest the possibility of expanding the service field using podcasts in domestic public libraries. As a result, foreign public libraries provided library events and use guides, book reviews, library promotions, information and contents, and often provided podcasts by age and library news. But the utilization rate of podcasts in domestic public libraries was low. A Podcasts of domestic public libraries were introducing to new books and recommending books. In the Incheon Yulmok Library, conducted a podcast program that librarians directly read the passages in the book and recommend new books. As a result, the book borrowing and utilization rate of the books have increased. In this way, domestic public libraries should apply podcasts to provide useful information to users and expand service area through various contents development that can increase motivation and interest.

Abstract

The task of author name disambiguation involves identifying an author with different names or different authors with the same name. The author name disambiguation is important for correctly assessing authors' research achievements and finding experts in given areas as well as for the effective operation of scholarly information services such as citation indexes. In the study, we performed error correction and normalization of data and applied rules-based author name disambiguation to compare with baseline machine learning disambiguation in order to see if human intervention could improve the machine learning performance. The improvement of over 0.1 in F-measure by the corrected and normalized email-based author name disambiguation over machine learning demonstrates the potential of human pattern identification and inference, which enabled data correction and normalization process as well as the formation of the rule-based diambiguation, to complement the machine learning's weaknesses to improve the author name disambiguation results.

Abstract

This study will explore the possibility of applying process innovation as a public library for business innovation. In order to do this, the study defines the concept of process innovation through the literature review. According to survey and focus group interviews with librarians working for public libraries, this study will organize work done at libraries into the following categories: acquisition, resource management, user management, user services, programs, volunteer management, marketing, library computerization system, facility management, general affairs and statistical management. In addition, through face-to-face surveys with librarians working for public libraries it is confirmed that there are issues within acquisition, user management, and applied process innovation. In response to these issues a new process has been developed. Using this new approach, book contract procedure and requests for book related work could be improved and optimized. In the user management section, the study analyzes the requirements and subscription procedures for members through a website survey of 30 public libraries in the United States and then provides an improved system through process analysis of the membership process of Korean public libraries. It is expected that the new system will contribute to improvements in user satisfaction as well as improvements in library workflow.
