Abstract

This study measured greening level on the 978 public libraries nationwide, making and distributing questionnaires based on green library evaluation indicators developed to measure the greening level of public libraries. As a result of analyzing the averages by evaluation area, among the green library evaluation areas, the whole average of the library resources was the highest by 1.93, and followed by land use and traffic 1.81, indoor environment 1.30, management of water circulation 1.20, etc. The greening evaluation area which shows the best strength in the surveyed public libraries, was the area of the library resource, and it turned out that it use spaces effectively like effective use of the entire area, effectiveness of conservation of books, use and management of eco-friendly products etc., or use the equipments in eco-friendly way which are purchased or used frequently in the libraries, and, as for the land use and traffic area, most of the libraries had bicycle racks, and chose the location of the libraries, considering accessibility to public transportation and a distance between central urban area and libraries. Also, it turns out that, in the area of materials and resources, most of the libraries were equipped with hand dryers and rolling towels and maintained the eco-friendly view.

Abstract

The government-affiliated organizations are required the autonomous record preservation and management, considering their management independence and specialty. In absence of general record management system for government-affiliated organizations, establishment of the standard; Functional requirements of systems with record management for government-affiliated organizations, etc. NAK/S 24:2014(v1.0) is meaningful because it can consensus the functional requirements and directions which are considered when organizations develop in-house record management systems. This study aims to analyze functional requirements and suggest procedures and strategies for application of the standard in the case of development of the record management system.

Abstract

SNS is a useful tool to quickly deliver information in an emergency given their speed and expandability. Especially, SNS in the event of a disaster or an accident can offer on-site, accurate and detailed updates about essential information such as the safety of victims and the development of the situation, served as a valuable complement to the conventional media. This study aims to perform a comparative analysis on how social media are currently used by emergency management authorities in South Korea and other countries. Based on the results, this study proposed more effective ways to exploit SNS and improve efficiency of disaster management. To accomplish the goals, this study collected tweet information from various sources including the FEMA of the U. S., the FDMA and the Central Disaster Council of Japan, and the MPSS of Korea. The collected tweet information was analyzed by feedback, time series, and information types. The feedback analysis aims to quantify the number of monthly user feedback in order to assess user satisfaction about the tweet information. The time series analysis identifies the number of tweet information, feedback index and keywords by country for certain duration, examining why certain messages showed high feedback indices and what kind of contents should be offered by the authorities. Finally, the analysis of information type reviews the type of information contained in the tweet information that drew users' attention to identify the information type in which the authorities should deliver information to users. Based on these analyses, this study proposed improvement methods to use Tweeter in MPSS.

Abstract

This study has a purpose of understanding residents' and librarians' perception on the role of school library as local reading cultural center. For this purpose, we conducted survey on the residents' in schools located in Gyeonggi-do, Korea whose library is open to local community and conducted telephone interview with librarians in these school libraries. The study results can be summarized as follows. First, most of the residents' perceived that reading cultural programs of school library are necessary and showed positive satisfaction on the currently running reading cultural programs. Moreover, the residents' perceived that the reading cultural programs had positive impact on the activation of school library. Second, although librarians in charge of school library were aware of the importance of the role of school library as local cultural center, it was shown that school library was not providing diverse reading cultural programs due to budget insufficiency.

Abstract

The present study positively analyzed the hyperlinks of 32 web sites with the purpose of analyzing the hyperlink network structure of web sites for each domestic library type. After collecting the hyperlink data using the crawler, we analyzed the overall characteristics of the websites in the network based on the characteristics of the library. The results are as follows. 1) Among all analyzed libraries, Yonsei scored the highest in degree centrality, betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, and eigenvector centrality. 2) By library type, Sejong for national library, Seoul for public library, and Yonsei for college library appeared an influential a relatively. Based on these analysis results, the present study will be utilized as basic data for establishing an operation strategy that improves the efficiency and effectiveness of library web sites in the future.

Abstract

Information behavior is an important area of research in library and information science (LIS) that has evolved over the last 75 years. The aim of this study is to investigate the recent trends of information behavior research by providing insights into emerging topical areas within information behavior. To conduct this study, the bibliographic data from Scopus was used, and the trends of information behavior were traced by using variations of key terms used in information behavior research, such as "information behavior", "information seeking behavior", and "information needs." In addition, the trends were analyzed in terms of content words in the title, highly cited journal articles, disciplinary categories, and author keywords. Information behavior research has its roots in LIS, but the findings of the study reveal that information behavior has expanded to other disciplines by intersecting a variety of topical areas. In particular, this study showed that information behavior in the health/medicine domain has become a predominant emerging topical area of research. In order to enhance our understanding of complex human behavior, future research should focus more on interdisciplinary aspects by measuring the scope of information behavior.

Abstract

Many university libraries, facing financial difficulties, have been forced to operate on a tighter budget. Such trend has created the need for an objective standard that will prioritize current library services. This study derives service quality factor via open coding from internet postings posted in the last five years on the Korean National Open University's library website, and also calculates the customer satisfaction quotient and dissatisfaction quotient using the Kano Model and Timko's Customer Satisfaction Coefficient. The result draws 25 service quality factors across 3 categories consisting of: (i) 8 attractive qualities, (ii) 15 one-dimensional qualities and (iii) 2 reverse qualities. The study, through the calculation of Timko's Customer Satisfaction Coefficient per service quality, proposes an intensive service that can prioritize the efficient use of library budget.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present the effects of a bibliotheraphy program using picture books on school adaptation of maladjusted high school students. The first and second year students of P High School that is located in Yongin city of Gyeonggi Do, bibliotherapy research using picture books has been carried out with 11 maladjusted students in school life. According to the analysis results is as follows. The bibliotherapy program using picture books turned out to be effective in adaptation ability ane sub-domains of adaptation ability such as teacher relationship, peer relationship, school class and school regulation of maladjusted students in school life.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of the operation of small libraries in Seoul and to assess the perception of their importance and satisfaction. For this purpose, 861 small libraries in Seoul were surveyed on the overall operational satisfaction, operational improvement, and the importance of operation. As a result, it was discovered that there is a demand for increased operational support for small libraries, enhanced publicity, improved education and treatment of volunteers, improved quality of the book collection, and continuously improved space and facilities. Furthermore, the public and private libraries should be classified to reflect operational characteristics of the operating entity, rather than implementing the uniform budget support and guidance management.

Abstract

This study aims to provide alternative strategies for promoting active engagement of users in participatory archives. It focuses on users and their active participation in digital archives beyond providing simple participation opportunities. In doing so, the study reviewed relevant literature that analyzes interpretation and development of participatory digital archives. Moreover, it examined several cases of participatory digital archives as to how they apply for user participation, policy, and service. As a general property, main participants, duration, and technology were examined. Technology was further subdivided into open source software, availability of Open API, availability of mobile web, and offline archives. Participation method was divided into active participation, hub participation, and passive participation according to degree of user participation, and the participation functions provided by each archive were compared and analyzed. In policy area, terms of use, personal information processing policy, copyright policy, collection policy, major collections, scope of collections, classification methods, and descriptive elements of each archive were discussed. Services were divided into content, search, and communication area. Based on such analysis, this study proposed ways for promoting active engagement of users in participatory digital archives in terms of participation, policy, content service, and communication service.

Abstract

Despite the importance and uses of serials in public libraries, the present condition of serial management is still behind. The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems and proposes the ways of improving serials management. For the purposes, this study conducted a literature review, case study of collection management policies of 8 regional central libraries and 3 public libraries abroad, and online questionnaire survey of 31 public libraries in Gyeong-gi province. Based on the results, this research suggests the need for extending the number and scope of serials subscriptions, improving access points and establishing management guidelines.
