Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the extent that users participated in Facebook of U.S. state archives and the types of user responses to posts on the Facebook. For the purpose, data created between August 1st and September 30th in 2016 were collected from Facebook continuously operated by 27 state archives. The extent of user participation was measured based on the number of user comments, the number of unique commenters, and the average number of comments per post. According to the measures, top 10 Facebook of state archives were selected. Out of these, Facebook of Ohio (1st), Florida (5th) and Arkansas (10th) state archives were chosen to collect 687 user comments and 132 posts. The analysis showed that comments regarding users' emotional opinion and judgement, adding explanations to a post, and sharing personal stories occupied a large portion. Interactions among users or between a user and an archivist were also identified. With regard to posts, those for sharing information/knowledge of records held in archives were identified as a high percentage. The study suggested that archives should collect and present historical information and related records connected to users' lives, examine methods for effective communication with users via social media and facilitate publicity and outreach services of archives based on shaping and maintaining online user community through social media.

Abstract

This study analyzes the spectrum of recommended books for adults included in the bibliotherapy book lists commonly used in libraries and organizations in the UK, US, and Korea. While the recommended book lists in the UK and US retain a diverse range of books relevant to the practitioners' needs, the Korean bibliotherapy book lists are mostly made up of non-fiction self-help books regardless of where the bibliotherapy service is provided. In the subcategory of the bibliotherapy book lists in the UK and US, aside from fictions, books on "health, fitness, dieting" including medical books rank higher than any other kind, which shows that bibliotherapy claims to have therapeutic effects in those organizations. In Korean bibliotherapy book lists, on the other hand, so-called "psychology books impregnated with self-help ideology" take up more than 60%. With the prospect of bibliotherapy as an interdisciplinary practice in mind, I suggest that bibliotherapy should draw upon the insights from humanities in order to help participants have time for deep introspection and attain inner maturity rather than just try to restore their normal conditions before the crisis.

This study aimed at finding theological trends of Calvin Theological Journal by analyzing Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). The study performed the time-series analysis and the analysis of distinctive terms by examining the main authors and the subject headings of the articles published in Calvin Theological Journal during 45 years. We also proposed a new method of dividing the analysis period with the change of authors and subject headings. In the analysis results, the 18 main authors had the three clusters and shared Calvin and the Reformed Theology, the Bible. The reformed characteristics were shown in the first and second period, but the reformed theology was at the margins. The frequency of Calvin became small in the third period, the frequency of the reformed theology became bigger than before, but it was at the perimeters. Literary criticism was clustered independently. There were lots of the terms of the reformed theology in the analysis of the distinctive terms in all three periods and especially in the 2-1 period science and religion were included as the distinctive terms. The compiled information were gathered from 22 records, and 10 main subjects, 40 sub-subjects and 239 mini-subjects were derived through the subject classification scheme. Item analysis was conducted through 38 metadata and input data types were classified and databased in Excel. Finally, a web-based digital archiving system was developed for searching and providing information through various access points. Suggestions for future research were made to expand archive contents through continuous excavation of westerners' records, to build an integrated information system of Korean digital archives incorporating individual archive systems, to develop standardization of classification schemes and a multidimensional classification system considering facet structure in cultural heritage areas, to keep consistency of contents through standardization of metadata format, and to build ontology using semantic search functions and data mining functions.
