Abstract

This study tries to discuss the problems of reading education based on the theory of multiple intelligences and after reading activity. For the theory of multiple intelligences, Dr. Howard Gardner asserted eight types of multiple intelligences under the presupposition the anyone had infinite ability. He analyzed and applied reading education by types of multiple intelligences and proposed a new program for the reading education aiming to evenly promote children's various intelligences and heighten their creativities. The purpose of the new program is to have children throw away the idea that they should perfect their resultants in reading education time, develop their own strong intelligences through various experiences and processes and complement their lacking abilities. To prove the validity of the program I made FGI (Focus Group Interview) to the sample group consisting of child reading education experts. Analyzing the interview showed that the general idea of the group corresponded to the researcher's expectation effect. I see that reading education has one-dimensionally developed significance if it enables all the children of the present and the future not to have the oppressive feeling that they should produce masterpieces in reading education but to take pleasure in the activities and improve their own abilities.

The purpose of this study is to examine research trends on theory use in Korean LIS, and ultimately to identify its academic growth and change. This study conducted content analysis, with a sample of 344 articles in Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science during the past five years from 2010 to 2014. Then longitudinal analysis was additionally carried out by comparing with a data set from 1984 to 2003. Findings are as follows. 13.7% of research articles used theories on average 2.02 times. The most theories were deployed at the level of Spot Citing and the next most theories were at the level of Theory Application. Research on the subject of education and information use/seeking used theories most frequently. Theories from LIS were 31.9% and those from social science were 58.3% of all. Also, longitudinal analysis results support the conclusion that there was no quantitative increase but was clear qualitative growth in theoretical research of LIS. And the current theoretical framework of LIS research has closer relationships with pedagogy and psychology among social science disciplines than in the past.

Abstract

Online education in the field of LIS has continued to spread out in university curricula or with collaborative online programs through consortia among universities. Unlike the traditional online education, however, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) with the recent advent and advances have risen as a new paradigm in education of the future in that these are massive online learner-centered courses, free and open to any person with no limit on enrollment. With no exception to this phenomenon, the LIS field centered by overseas iSchool universities has been offering MOOCs for core LIS courses. This research conducted a case study of utilizing a part of overseas LIS MOOCs in a core LIS course at domestic University-A, in order to explore the potential for utilizing overseas MOOCs in LIS education. The results of conducting a survey and a focus group interview to students discovered that MOOCs content was interesting and useful and many of them were willing to take other MOOCs in the future, despite some language barriers. Based on these findings, this study suggested the need for establishing educational value, administering methods, ways to motivate students, and designing MOOCs by incorporating the characteristics of the LIS field, as ways to utilize MOOCs in LIS education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify Web accessibility issues of healthcare websites of the Korean government and public agencies by evaluating these websites' accessibility in accordance with the Korean Web Contents Accessibility Guideline. This study conducted both automated and expert testing to assess the accessibility of a total of 27 health-related websites. The results of the assessment which was conducted in two stages indicated that institutions such as the National Hospital and National Rehabilitation Center demonstrated almost no Web accessibility error. In addition, the Korea Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Health Services Agency, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency attained very high web accessibility. However, the results of an expert evaluation highlighted that there were considerable errors in providing appropriate alternative text, which was not found in the automated test, and the color contrast of the text content did not comply with Web accessibility standard. Therefore, these websites did not support web accessibility for the sight-impaired. Furthermore, the present study found that it was difficult to deliver accurate information to users due to errors in the default language display and markup, and also, issues of skipping repeated content, content linearization, and compliance with keyboard use were considered as challenges that might arise for people with sight, cognitive and mobility impairments with respect to Web accessibility. It is the first study that evaluated accessibility of healthcare websites of the Korean government and public agencies based on the Korean Web Contents Accessibility Guideline. The present study made a contribution to research on Web accessibility by conducting expert testing, which provided a more complete assessment that identified the degree and specific issues of accessibility errors when compared to automated testing.
