While a number of studies have been conducted on the multimedia rooms in academic libraries, they have limitations both in the research scope and in the data analysis methods. The principal limitations are: (1) Lack of investigation on the variation in user satisfaction by users' major areas and utilization behaviors; (2) Insufficiency of examining the variation in user satisfaction with diverse library areas; (3) Lack of consideration of service providers' opinions. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the follows: (1) investigating how users' major fields and utilization behaviors affect user satisfaction; (2) determining the relationships between the area satisfaction factors and satisfaction in general; and (3) discovering what to improve, as indicated by users and service providers. On the basis of the results, the suggestions relate to the improvements of the followings: (1) the existing system; (2) equipments and facilities; (3) resources; (4) user education; and (5) administrative and legal support.
In order to re-activation of shared cataloging, spirit of community and cooperation are most needed. But proper compensation about contribution would motivate. Through representing basic data for making compensation policy about university library's share cataloging system, this study analyzes activities about contribution and utilization of participated libraries. To put it concretely, this study considers overall status of contribution and utilization through descriptive statistics and analyzes relationship between both sides. Furthermore through clustering participating library, this study brightened the libraries that ought to be compensated and who would be need to be specially rewarded. And draw the libraries that need to be paid and need to be led for active participation of shared cataloging.
By providing a variety of information resources and space, the school library provides students with the opportunities for creativity improvement through reading and humanity education, teachers with the opportunities for providing the high quality training by developing teaching methods fit for the students' aptitude and ability. The school library is now playing a greater role as a curriculum-oriented space instead of just a repository for books. This study was intended to survey the perception of librarians in these libraries to find the most optimal location for the school library to ease use for teachers and students. In order to accomplish the object of this study, a questionnaire targeted school librarians around South Korea, and previous studies about school library facilities were analyzed. As a result of the study, factors such as 'buildings, floors, position in building, and size' of school libraries appeared to make a large difference in the satisfaction of school librarians.
Air Force library performs the functions of a library with respect to a specific group of Air Force. However, the development of Air Force library is beginning step, its facilities and services are not meet expectations. The analysis of operating status for entire Air Force libraries is so far not attempted. Focusing on this point, this study analysed for the first time evaluation regarding the overall operating status and activation of Air Force libraries at the levels of wing, group and squadron. The questionnaire was consisted of a total of 45 questions. The questionnaire was distributed to 101 Air Force libraries registered in currently August 2014. I was received the reply from 81 out of 101 Air Force libraries, but the responses of 4 libraries were poor, and analyzed the total 77 library responses excluding them. As the results of the analysis, this paper identified operational status and perception of activation of Air Force libraries as a whole, and pointed out the problems that have been identified regarding the operation of these libraries. Furthermore, this paper suggested concretely activation plan for the development of Air Force libraries.
The purpose of this study is to propose established factors and a model of collection development policies for the libraries of theological universities in Korea. To achieve purpose of the study, we analyzed of elements and details of collection development policies at libraries of theological universities in overseas. The study then conducted a survey to understand the current status of collection development policies at libraries of theological universities in Korea. Based on the above results, reflecting both the external and the internal factors, the investigator presented a model of collection development policies by identifying seven elements that should be included when developing the policy: prefaces, collection selection, collection gathering, budget, collection maintenance, mutual cooperation and intellectual freedom, and revision of collection development policies.
This study aimed to investigate the transition of academic libraries' jobs by developing a model based on a shift of library generations including Library 1.0, Library 2.0, and Library 3.0 corresponding to the shift of web generations and to explore generational characteristics of library duties as well. The research used three phases of procedure: literature review about different library generations; job analyses for academic libraries in South Korea and the U.S.A.; the Delphi technique in tree sequential order. The research findings were as follows. First of all, there were 170 duties that continued from Library 1.0 to Library 3.0. There were 58 duties which continued from Library 2.0 to Library 3.0 whereas three duties that continued from Library 1.0 to Library 2.0. In addition, three distinctive duties existed only in Library 1.0 whereas one unique duty was only in Library 2.0. Library 3.0 generated 25 new duties. Secondly, considering general characteristics which cover specific parts of individual duties, there was a significant increase in importance, difficulty, and frequency of library administration throughout the three generations. In terms of importance, difficulty, and frequency of collection development and management, there was a significant increase only from Library 2.0 to Library 3.0. Considering information organization, there was a significant decrease in importance from Library 1.0 to Library 2.0. In addition, there was a significant decrease in frequency and there was no significant difference in difficulty throughout the three generations. In the case of information service, while there was a significant increase in importance among three generations, there was a significant increase in difficulty only from Library 1.0 to Library 2.0. However, there was no generational difference in frequency. With the respect of information system development and management, there was a significant increase in importance and frequency throughout the three generations, but there was no significant difference in difficulty among three generations.
This study used social discourse analysis and analyzed social discourse on library reflected in media, social media, interview and diary of persons concerned, particularly focusing on controversy over whether 'The Forest of Wisdom' should be called a 'library'. The study analyzed a three-dimensional framework, including media report that eventually developed a social 'discourse event', social media surrounding this issue, and interview with persons in the library community and publishing industry regarding discourse. This study draws a conclusion that 'The Forest of Wisdom' rather led social discourse over the role of library especially when traditional library is faced with new demands for discourse and changes. It is meaningful in that this issue provided an opportunity for library and the publishing industry to think over and develop ways for autonomous discourse that seeks their true value.
As a way of identifying users' image needs for improved effectiveness of image search, there have been recent research approaches to examine contextual factors in image needs with multiple perspectives. In this line of research, this study examined a total of 70 unsuccessful image searches for the purpose of investigating users' image needs. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, in particular, the characteristics of image needs, contextual factors on image needs, and image queries were investigated. The findings of this study demonstrated that information needs from the failed image searches are categorized primarily into specific and general/nameable categories. More importantly, these information needs are embedded with multiple contextual factors, primarily, task purpose and use purpose. With an analysis of detailed use purposes for image, illustration use was found most in this data set. For query analysis, the type of unique/refined image query was revealed primarily. As the results of this study were found similar to the findings of previous studies, it is possible to characterize the image needs from the failed image searches. In addition, the findings of this study are expected to be useful to the design and service of image retrieval.
This study aims to infer the gene-protein 'brings_about' chains of pancreatic cancer which were referred to in the pancreatic cancer related researches by constructing the gene-protein interaction network of pancreatic cancer. The chains can help us uncover publicly unknown knowledge that would develop as empirical studies for investigating the cause of pancreatic cancer. In this study, we applied a novel approach that grafts text mining and the main path analysis into Swanson's ABC model for expanding intermediate concepts to multi-levels and extracting the most significant path. We carried out text mining analysis on the full texts of the pancreatic cancer research papers published during the last ten-year period and extracted the gene-protein entities and relations. The 'brings_about' network was established with bio relations represented by bio verbs. We also applied main path analysis to the network. We found the main direct 'brings_about' path of pancreatic cancer which includes 14 nodes and 13 arcs. 9 arcs were confirmed as the actual relations emerged on the related researches while the other 4 arcs were arisen in the network transformation process for main path analysis. We believe that our approach to combining text mining analysis with main path analysis can be a useful tool for inferring undiscovered knowledge in the situation where either a starting or an ending point is unknown.
The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of step-by-step educational comic book behavior of the elementary school students and their reading levels on their learning competencies. To this end, qualitative research with focus group and deep interviews was conducted with students on different reading levels. During their repetitive reading activities, the students tended to use various educational comics within the same subjects area on their corresponding reading levels. Such behavior led the students to further read other books than comics in the similar subjects areas, and by doing so, the books acted as an important reference to the students' class materials. It was found that the students' such behavior has positive impact on the improvement of their learning competencies. It is hoped that this study will be supportive to develop self-study methods and effective reading guidance plans by improving the usage of educational comics.
The purpose of this study is the investigation and evaluation of participants' awareness in the Book debate club which is managed by library of C University in Gwangju. For this purpose, the difference of the impact of participation in accordance to the participation duration and attitude, the demographic property of participants, and the problem of Book debate club are investigated. The collection of data is achieved by questionnaires and interviews. In the analyzed result, the period and manner of the participation are very important factors. Also, the activation plan is proposed on the basis of the analyzed result of problems in reading debate club to contribute to the management of future University library's reading promotion program.
The purpose of this study is to analyze researchers' information use behaviors in the field of business administration in order to provide library services based on user information needs. The methods of this study targeted the members of K Society in the business administration field, and employed user survey using a web-based questionnaire. A total of 202 users answered the questionnaire. The questionnaire focused on items such as by age and status, general information use, electronic resources use, SNS and mobile services information use, library and information center use, and specialized business administration library use. The results of this study suggested improving several library services.
This study examines the relationship between library anxiety and computer attitude with references to the variations in the college students' gender, grade level, academic majors, frequency of library visits, and the perception towards mobile-phones in order to explore the possible measures for minimizing library anxiety amongst the students. The study results show the computer anxiety and the computer usefulness to be the computer attitudinal factors most closely correlated with the level of library anxiety. Our proposed solution is the development of a user training course and curriculum to lower students' computer anxiety while promoting greater computer usefulness.
China's reading campaign has started as part of youth education since 1993 and also has been conducted as government-level 'national reading activities' since 2006. This study was conducted to investigate and analyzed China's reading campaign as part of overseas case study of reading campaign, based on literature studies and internet survey method as well as meta study. As regard reading status, Chinese people's reasons to read or not to read books plus reading rate and reading amount were reviewed and the background, operation style and major activities of 'national reading activities' were investigated. The characteristics and problems of China's reading campaign were reviewed and 1) national level reading campaign, 2) intensive reading campaign through common subject and 3) youth reading education for self-education and character development were put forth for the betterment of reading campaign in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to conduct the mobile OK test which means the web accessibility evaluation tool and to evaluate the public libraries' mobile web services. For this purpose, 81 public libraries were tested and analysed in Mobile Web Best Practices presented by W3C. The results of this study indicate the following several strategies: Support by local governments and provincial education offices, Design mobile web services corresponding with web standards, Removal of harmful elements in the web design process, Making simple mobile web documents, A merger of individual files. The findings of this study expect to expand and improve the public library mobile web services for future.
This research conducted questionnaire surveys of church library managers and volunteers in church libraries, in order to improve volunteer management in church libraries by the analysis of current situation and problems with regards to operating volunteer activities. Seventy one church library managers out of 101 church libraries, and 221 volunteers responded to the questionnaire. The survey results indicated that volunteers' satisfaction with their work and need for education and continuous motivation Perception gap was found between managers and volunteers on application of task and the reward system Based on the results, this research suggests the ways of improvement for operating and training volunteers in church libraries.
This research aims to seek for activation methods of archive events regarded as one of the ways of recording information service, in order that the national archives which needs to change its role meets various users. In order to reach the goals I have suggested, I have compared the examples of archive events operated at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA, the United States of America, USA) and The National Arc-hives (TNA, the United Kingdom, UK) to the case of archive events at the National Archives of Korea (NAK). As a result, I have proposed activation methods as follows based on those; subdivision of the detailed subject area, diversification of the programmes types, and connectivity reinforce of archive events.
